"But what about the roads?!" scream ignorant tyrants whenever tax cuts are mentioned. Well, it turns out only a tiny fraction of your tax money is used for roads. Even less for firefighters. Almost none of the federal budget goes to infrastructure or civil services, but that's another shirt. (They obfuscate the budget so it's taking time to sort through the big pile of crooked accounting.)
This graph is for fiscal year 2015, the most recent complete year available at the time. Source data from the US Census Bureau. State data is aggregate and not subject to sampling error. Local data is estimated from a sampling of local governments across the nation. Apparently the accounting budget is even smaller than the fire fighting budget.
